Closed-loop hotel – environmental and economic benefits versus the traditional approach

General objectives:

  1. Understanding the concept of a sustainable, eco-friendly hotel operating in a closed-loop system.
  2. Understanding the environmental, economic and operational impacts of closed-loop and traditional hotels.

Specific objectives – the student will be able to:

  1. Work as a team, discuss and collaborate on ideas for the ‘hotel of the future’.
  2. Explain the characteristics of an eco-friendly/closed-loop hotel (waste sorting, recycling, waste reduction, energy and water savings, etc.).
  3. Propose practical measures/procedures that can be implemented in a hotel to make it more eco-friendly and efficient.
  4. Identify the differences between a sustainable hotel and traditional hospitality — ecological and financial effects.
  5. Assess the benefits (for the environment, for savings) and possible difficulties in implementing such solutions.
