Textile waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams. Upcycling means transforming an existing garment into something with a new function or style (without industrial recycling). In this challenge, students redesign an unwanted clothing item into a new wearable or useful product, extending its life and reducing the need to buy new. The challenge is to raise students’ awareness about the problem with the fast fashion industry and the unwanted waste.
